CLOUD WALKING is common sense blessing, poetic prophecy, joyful afirrmation available to people of every faith community. It seeks to speak to every seeker who is searching for a path toward God. It is a tree of life with roots deep in Native American wisdom and Christian theology, but with branches broad enough to shade every faithful heart.
Steven Charleston is a Visiting Professor at the Saint Paul School of Religion at Oklahoma City University. He has been the Episcopal bishop of Alaska, the Presdent and Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School, and has served on three seminary faculties. He is a citizen of the Choctaw nation of Oklahoma, where he resides with his spouse, Susan, whose art work appears on the covers of Red Moon books.
Excerpt from Cloud Walking:
"Grandmother God rose last night in the face of the full moon. I stood out in the still summer heat watching her. How pale you look I said. How hot you look she said. We shared a smile. Knowing God is seeing God where you find her. In images and languages and the thousand faces of her world. In the intuition of faith we find her more clearly than in the narrow lines of our theology. Her scandal is an intimacy with all of us who are her family, who call her by many names, and stand outside on hot summer nights to greet her when she comes to call."
“Steven Charleston speaks gently and clearly with the spirit filled wisdom and insight of an indigenous elder. His writings are universally respected, calling as they do, all peoples into the enduring vision of how life ought to be lived in harmony and in peace with justice for all.”
- Dr. Jenny Te Paa-Daniel
Indigenous Lay Anglican Theologian (Aotearoa, New Zealand)
“It is a rare combination to find a spirituality that combines the prophetic with the compassionate. Steven Charleston has that gift and I believe anyone who hears or reads his words will discover that for themselves.”
- The Most Rev. Edmond L. Browning,
Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (ret.)
